From 1941 to 1945, from here at home to Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima to Omaha Beach in Normandy, hundreds of thousands of Americans sacrificed all that they had, including their lives , to preserve and protect the liberties we enjoy. This course is a half - year elective in which we will examine the United States role in the single greatest conflict in modern history. We will study both the Pacific and European theaters of operation, the factors that led to war in both areas, the major battles in both theaters, and some of the moral and ethical dilemmas arising from the conflict. Freedom is not free. Learn about the price your grandparents' generation paid to preserve the freedom we all enjoy today. EVALUATION Student grades will be determined through 4 special projects per quarter. Projects will be graded on the basis of 100 points, giving a possible point total of 400 per quarter. In addition. Students will be evaluated for class participation. This will be based on a rubric, and will account for another 100 points. The total points earned by the student out of the possible 500 will be divided by 5 to determine a percentage which will be the student's grade. Projects must be handed in no later than the due date assigned, or the student will lose 20 points per day for each day the project is late. Students who are legally absent on the due date of a project may hand it in the next time they are in school without penalty. As always, class participation will be an important part of the student's grade. |
